Shops and the Revolution

(For those who do not attend the General Board Meeting)

A visit to Lambertville – a one square mile community located on the eastern banks of the Delaware River not far from the place where “Washington Crossed the Delaware”. It was first settled in the 18th century as a stage coach stop between Philadelphia and New York City. It now houses one-of-a-kind shops, antique shops, art shops and others owned and operated independently. See the cannel and railroad and have lunch at the restored 19th century Lambertville Station. Order from the menu of a variety of American cuisine at your expense. Or, if you have time before lunch, you can walk across the steel trestle bridge to New Hope, Bucks County, Pennsylvania where there are more shops, restaurants, and theater.

Then on to The Old Barracks Museum in Trenton. This Revolutionary War site was built in 1758 to house British Troops during the French and Indian War. It is one of the last surviving barracks built by local citizens to avoid billeting in their homes. Experience military life before and during the Battle of Trenton. The Hessians were here.

$40.00 includes bus fare, driver tip, and admission to the Old Barracks.

Lunch is not included.

A Visit to Cape May County

Cold Spring and Naval Air Station Wildwood

The Naval Air Station Wildwood is located inside Hanger #1 at the Cape May Airport. It was the site of a Naval Aviation Base during World War II. Hanger #1 is listed on the National and State of New Jersey Register of Historic Places – at the National significance level. It contains over 26 aircraft displays as well as military memorabilia, engines, and more.

Then on to Historic Cold Spring Village – a living history museum. For 29 years the village has brought to life the day-to-day activities of living in Southern New Jersey during the “age of homespun” (1789-1840). Take a stroll along the 30 acres of shaded lanes and visit the 26 restored historic buildings housing historically clothed interpreters and stop at The Old Grange Restaurant for lunch. This two-story building was built in 1912 as a meeting hall for the Cold Spring Grange #132. It functioned as a political/civic, business, educational and social organization for the farmers and residents of Cold Spring and is listed on the State of New Jersey and National Register of Historic Places.

A Revolutionary War Encampment of re-enactors is planned by the village for this day.You can see how the soldiers lived and ask questions.

$55.00 includes bus fare, driver tip, and admission to the Naval Air Station Wildwood and Historic Cold Spring Village. Lunch at the Old Grange Restaurant is an additional charge depending on what you order from the menu.
